Farmers of Jatiluwih Rice Terraces

We spent just over two weeks on the Indonesian island of Bali. After a few days, we got a fairly clear idea of what we would see around us all the time. Ubiquitous motorbikes and rice fields.

Journey

I planned the photos on the terraces many days in advance. A little study about how it works, how it might look. And then finally came the day we set out on the terraces. Jatiluwih Rice Terracess are quite well-known tourist place, but because of their large size not so many people around.

We were about two hours drive from the capital on a motorcycle. I will not lie to you, sitting on a scooter for so long is nothing pleasant. But we got there. Along the way we were accompanied by quite bad weather, but it does not matter to the photos, sometimes it’s even better. We were surprised that the fields are relatively empty. By the time we found someone we could photograph, we almost wanted to give up. Eventually we managed to catch this bunch of pickers and I left with a smile on my face. We met with other farmers and passed the joy, smiles and using hands and legs instructions for great photos. It goes without knowing your own languages.
